I wanted a new lifestyle. Change. The one slogging away each day at sometimes meaningless jobs no longer worked. I was also becoming a risk on the diabetes scale.
My new lifestyle started when I finally decided to pack up life in 7 kilograms to head off to an unfamiliar country to just have some head space to begin making a fresh start. Plus I just like new adventures fairly often.
While on the topic, I've always had mainly three, I guess you can call it passions. A strong need for having aesthetical beauty around me, natural or manmade. A friend of mine once complained about my choice of seating at restaurants or cafés - I always went for the best seat to face something to stimulate my senses, even if it was just sitting to smell the freshly ground coffee.... but which meant he sometimes had to face the opposite, and this drove him nuts because he also wanted a nice view.
Secondly, I enjoy the contrast of old & new. As if just yesterday, I still remember my first visit to Florence in Italy and how I couldn't stop walking the streets to take it all in - their beautiful mastery of combining the ancient architecture with modern technology like enormous glass panels. I like fixing anything. Using old rubble to build something new. Restoring ruins. Renovating. Making something liveable and useful again. Giving new life to something.
And I like variety, which is where the adventure seeking comes from. Now not many jobs give you these pleasures on a constant basis. So, I had to create my own, there was just no other way.
